On the road again with my battle buddy Eileen Kerlin, this time we were headed to NH to the headquarters of Sig Sauer for instructor development training.
We spend some time in the classroom then headed out to the range for some live fire. I have to say I had high expectations based on all that I had heard from other folks that this was the ” Diamond ” facility and training.
The first sign of trouble were the guns, we had heard that they would provide us with some of the latest and nicest guns so we could get a good idea of the gun, and that they were in excellent condition. I was pretty surprised to see the gun they gave me was extremely dirty and not well maintained at all, when I asked one of the instructors, they just shrugged it off and said oh yeah, we don’t really clean our guns here. I asked if maybe we could be provided with materials to clean them ourselves or at least some lube, but alas that never came. The sights were horrible, they only had a few with fiber optic and they were very dull, the red dot I was loaned was way off and in serious need of a zero. The female instructor we had really knew her stuff, but we couldn’t really hear her very well because of the class in the next berm shooting, often she would wait until they were done shooting to explain different concepts and drills, it was really frustrating. Even as a smaller scaled instructor I had different headsets and systems so my students are able to hear me when we are on the range, I was really surprised that they didn’t have some sort of sounds system.
A few of the instructors seemed to be newer at teaching, and at times also condescending.
A few of the drills were dangerous, and when a student spoke out about it, she was talked down to about it, we were very surprised.
In the end it was not the experience I expected, and I was very disappointed, and won’t be going back.
But the company was wonderful, and the food as well, we found a small local coffee shop where we could have our ” breakfast sandwiches” and good strong coffee every morning, by the second day they even remembered our order, it had a wonderful small town everybody knows your name feel and the fall colors we saw everyday were gorgeous.
We had to go into Boston for the ” Lobsta” and had a great experience there with the other AGAG ladies, and flew first class both ways thanks to my buddy, so because of all of that it was still a win for me.
